Chiang Mai Flower Festival
The northern Thai city of Chiang Mai has been celebrating its 35th annual flower festival this weekend (held every year over the first weekend in February). Tens of thousands of Thai people and overseas tourists have been enjoying the spectacle which is always a fantastic family occasion.
As well as the floral displays and horticultural competitions, there has also been a street parade featuring marching bands and giant floats intricately decorated with flowers. As always at the Chiang Mai Flower Festival, His Majesty the King has been honoured with floral representations on a number of floats. Rabbits have also been a popular theme with this year’s flower festival coinciding with the Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations for the Year of the Rabbit.
